General Comments: A heavily peated and Port finished offering from Speyside distillery BenRiach which combines an interesting take on a heavily peated spirit along with a heavy port finish. The results stand up as one of the better, more interesting Port finished whisky's without being able to complete in terms of quality against Oloroso sherry wood whisky's such as the Bunnahbhain Moine Oloroso or Ardbeg Uigedaal.
Nose: A dry peat overtone with fruity cherries and currants in honey alongside mossy notes with decaying vegetable matter. As much savoury as sweet.
Palate: The peat is omnipresent, but as on the nose a drier in style than Hebridean offerings. Rich honeyed dates and prunes balanced with notes of specialist dark chocolate and espresso.
Finish: The espresso bitterness continues on the finish. It sweetens out with dates and the cherries from the nose make a return.
