General Comments: Possibly Glenfarclas; maybe Aberlour?. VFM @ £39.99; in fact if you don't enjoy this after allowing it to breathe then you may have a heart of stone.

Nose: Not at its best straight into a glass. There are pleasant stewed fruits. molasses and dark chocolate notes that unfortunately get lost amid the noise of green moss and acetone (nail polish remover).

Palate: Again there is a struggle between the undoubted flavour coming from the whisky and the elements that are trying there best to ruin it. You get a richness of sucked toffee's, maple and golden syrup, sherry soaked raisins; but there is a touch of sourness, maybe lime or grapefruit, that doesn't compliment this flavour profile as well as a slight burn from the alcohol.

Finish: The finish doesnt really differ much from the taste. A touch of rubber is perhaps left in the mouth. A drying sensation is also left with notes of acidic citrus fruits.

I know this doesn't sound like a very good whisky so far; but give it 30 minutes in the glass.

Glen Marnoch 28 yr Old Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky 02
Developed Nose: Sweet. Sticky toffee pudding comes to mind. Mapple syrup, dates, sultana's and juicy raisins. A definite hint of vanilla custard

Developed Taste: Rich and mouth filling with toffee sauce flavours leading into a sucked toffee penny (from Quality Street). On the back of the throat a hit of brandy esque alcohol with stewed dark fruits and treacle.

Developed Finish: A lingering flavour of treacle and stewed dark fruits with a freshness cutting through it like the flesh of crisp green apples.

Conclusion: Leave it in the glass for at least 30 minutes and then enjoy. This whisky offers an interesting spin on Oloroso sherry casked whisky's in that there is so much molasses sweetness in there alongside the fruity flavours. It isn't specifically like anything I've tried before and as such it represents £39.99 well spent.
