General Comments: Distilled in 2003 in a sherry butt which was previously used for Pédro Ximenez (PX) sherry. This is one of 670 bottles drawn from cask 713 and is a slightly lighter example of Glendronach, the Highland distillery, PX casked whisky. If you've not tried whisky matured in PX casks before, I fully recommend you do. Glendronach do this better than anyway and single cask barrier filtered whisky at its natural strength is a fantastic place to start.
Nose: Demerara sugar, bananas and caramel are the first scents to hit, followed by sun dried figs in their own syrup (if you've ever had bought a foil sealed packet of those moist dark brown fruits then you'll know what I mean). Moist California raisins adds an extra dimension to the sweet fruitiness.
Palate: Rich on the palate with that hint of banana from the nose coming through on the palette. At first I think caramel, but it's not it's Caramac bars (a brand of caramel chocolate). The alcohol dances lightly on the front of the tongue; this is cask strength after all, and gives tingling sensation of white pepper.
Finish: slightly drying on the back of the mouth. The sweetness but by a developing salty edge, cutting the rich sweetness slightly and providing a lovely balance.
