In this post I'm going to recommend bottles which offer outstanding quality for the price. I'm not going to consider the type, style or region; the only criteria is absolute quality. The categories are:
  • Standard
  • Premium
  • Luxury
Standard: In this category there is one single malt that stands head and shoulders above the others; the Glencadam 10: The Rather Delicate. Glencadam is a Highland distillery which is little known, but all of its whisky is unchilfiltered, naturally coloured and bottled at 46% ABV. The 10 yr Old bottling has an clean and crisp taste; is sweet, floral and fruity with notes of vanilla and heather honey complimenting this highly drinkable example of Highland style whisky using primarily refill American Oak casks for an extremely pocket friendly price of £31.

Premium: Again one bottle truly stands out from the crowd; Ardbeg Corryvreckan is the most expensive of the Ardbeg core range and is also the highest ABV at 57.1%. The Corryvreckan is truly a huge whiskywith plenty of peat, hugely rich with vanilla's and caramels, complimenting an element of stewed fruit and the typical Ardbeg characteristic of smoked meats (especially thick cut maple bacon) and chicory. Not only is this the best £62 you can spend on whisky; it's the best £62 you can spend, period.

Whisky 02
Luxury: A single cask 28 yr Old whisky from Speyside distillers Glenfarclas; bottled and released by independent whisky merchants Hunter Laing as part of their First Editions Authors Series. This bottling is quintessentially in the Glenfarclas style in every positive sense and is a fantastically deep and complex sherried whisky that just gets better and better and better. £190 is a luxury price tag but this bottling is well presented and one of only 306 bottles.
